The worst place you could choose to live as a college student. Living here has been nothing but stressful and inconvenient. From the second I moved in my apartment was filthy and had never been cleaned after the prior tenants moved out and it was admitted to me that no one checked or cleaned my apartment before me moving in.
While living in the apartment I had multiple problems including leaks in my bedroom that are never handled right, maintenance would mark my work order as complete but never actually stepped foot in my apartment or if they did the problem was never fixed appropriately. Currently i have been out of my apartment for going on 2 months due to a flood. The way the staff as a whole has handled this situation has been terrible. We have been given little to no updates about when our apartment will be finished, it has been extremely difficult to get ahold of the property manager as she constantly has the leasing agents in the front office cover for her. I have no idea of when I will be back in my apartment as they constantly push the time back and corporate will not get back to me on if I can break my lease with no fee. The stress is absolutely not worth it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Peyton F.Lexington, KY01Feb 8, 2023

Absolutely terrible staff, not that they are bad people I'm sure they're great, but as office staff of an apartment complex? Horrendous. Elevator is constantly broken, the staircases and hallways always filthy and full of trash. Quite dangerous to walk around at night. DO NOT give them a security deposit. It will take you 6 calls to the office, 2 calls to higher management, a complaint, and 95 days (minimum) to get it back.

If you want to live somewhere where you get taken advantage of for being a college student this is the place! My roommates and I signed a lease for the Lex apartments this previous summer 2022. I moved in June 2022 and upon move in our dryer was broke and the apartment had not been cleaned. We had expressed this to the office and put in countless maintenance orders. We were told we could not move in until a week after we were initially supposed to because it was to be cleaned. Unfortunately, arriving to my room it was filthy. Inch of dust on the ceiling fan, toilet had hair and other residue inside, sink and bath tub were unusable they were so dirty. I spent hours just cleaning this apartment before I could move my stuff inside. After weeks of dealing with the dryer issue it still was not resolved. We were told maintenance had been multiple times and that it was fixed. It was not and nobody had been, surprise surprise! We then proceeded to call the office and ask to speak with a manger. After MANY times of being told she'll call us back (which never happened), our parents decided to call. Once again, no response. We finally got ahold of Rebecca, the property manager and her response was "Well you can hang your clothes on a clothes line, I have had to do that before" along with "I just don't know what more you want us to do". Rebecca also suggested we use the washer and dryer in the show apartment? Leaving our clothes unattended in an apartment is so far from realistic it's insane. This proceeded being screamed at over the phone by her. I'm not sure if this is just because we're college students and management thinks they can get one over, but it's crazy! Never have I lived somewhere where management YELLS at their residents for lack of amenities that are supposed to be included in the outrageous rent we pay them monthly! Oh but it doesn't stop there! Over winter break, our apartment building flooded. We were informed many hours after this happened by email. Myself and my roommates were not home during this, so we called to have them check and see if there was standing water in our apartment. No call back. This was December 24th. We were informed we had to be out of our apartment so they could start repairs. We did not have anywhere to go. The Lex tried to put us in a 2 star, bed bug and cockroach infested extended stay 20 minutes from campus. We are college students who walk from The Lex to campus, who they are expecting us to buy a parking pass for on campus? We then reached out and asked for alternative accommodations. It took them nearly two weeks to communicate with us where we were supposed to be going. My mom called the office and sent countless emails to Rebecca all to be told she cannot give her any information because she's not on my lease. After being provided proof that my mother was a Guarantor on my lease she still refused to give my mom any information until I emailed allowing it. Once I emailed, to no surprise it took days to get a response. Once that response came it was extremely hostile. Finally after calls made to managers above Rebecca we finally got some answers. We still are paying full rent, because they so graciously accommodated us with a hotel room with no stove, no freezer, no washer and dryer, and still have to drive to park and walk to class. We still are paying utilities for an apartment where we are using nothing and who knows if lights are being kept on, heat/ac being changed, etc. We are going on week 5 of living out of a hotel and not being compensated for extra expenses that would not have occurred if we were living in our apartment. We have been told it's going to be AT LEAST another 3 weeks. We understand completely the lex was not at fault for the flooding, but they are 100% at fault for the lack of communication and the way they treat their residents. DO NOT LIVE HERE. The Lex only cares about money and will scream at you for things that in the end, they are responsible for. The management, especially Rebecca, are absurd and lack communication with their residents. These are only a few of the things we've encountered during our lease term. They will blame you for their mistakes and wrongdoings and hold you on the lease like it is prison. I cannot wait until this lease is up.

Great location and the apartment is nice overall. However, my roommate is paying $665 a month and their "walk-in" closet is two 2' long wire shelves on one wall and a crappy tie rack on a hanging piece of drywall that connects to the HVAC unit.
Main issue is our heating: the unit stays at the set temp but it blows out cold air even when set to auto. We have to manually shut it off, and when we're not there our electric bill skyrockets. The front office is always super nice and helpful, and maintenance came to check it out (usually multiple days to get there but do a good job), but upper management closed my request and decided it wasn't their problem because maintenance didn't find anything the first try (even though our electric bill had over doubled). After another month of outrageous bills (almost triple our usual bill), maintenance found the error.
Even after maintenance "found" the error, our bills continued to be completely outrageous, and it was just due to a very inefficient HVAC system. I don't think they need state of the art technology here, but $225/mo electricity for a small 2 bedroom apartment is insane (we don't waste energy ever--lights off during the day, conservative heat/AC usage). Beware of these insane extra charges!!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Abby P.Lexington, KY01Jun 30, 2021
This place is absolutely disgusting. There was dried throw up and dog poop and pee in the stairwell for months. Nobody every cleaned it. Paid access for the pool when it wasn't open for months. The trash situation is gross and a waste of money. Also, our Airconditioning and washer broke multiple times during the year and when we reached out for help our leasing managers led us on and took a ridiculous amount of time to process our requests. The entire year was incredibly frustrating with a variety of problems and I honestly wouldn't recommend anyone to live here.

PLEASE READ BEFORE SIGNING A LEASE WITH THE LEX:
I am a current resident at The Lex living in a 4 bedroom 4 bathroom apartment since August of 2017. When I came to check out The Lex, I was excited to be living so close to campus, near lots of food and entertainment, and, not to mention, right by downtown. My apartment was going for $570/month, BUT since I was singing so late, they had a deal going on that any resident signing would receive two $500 Visa Gift Cards for signing a year long lease-This was awesome! So, I applied these gift cards to my rent and decided to bring in a money order to spread it out over the year long lease; bringing my rent down to $487/month plus electric. This was totally affordable and I was thrilled.
February comes around and I go online to pay my rent and my rent is showing up as only 300 for the month.. how strange! I called the office and they were just as confused as I was. They said at that point, not to question it and that "I guess you got lucky this month." Again. Yay!
Next month's rent comes around and my rent is $570 plus electricity... This wasn't the deal with my gift cards I had received. I went into the office only for them to tell me "Well, it looks like the rest of your Visa gift cards have been used..."
"Um.. used by whom?" Long story short, the ended up having no record of having talked to me on the phone the month my rent was unusually low, and ended up basically telling me tough luck. My parents ended up coming to the office to speak with the management and see if they could get any answers of help me out, only to find that the entire management staff were ALL college students, meaning 19-22ish. Since then, I've been paying $570 a month due to someone else's mistake and am absolutely furious. On top of all of that, they frequently enter your apartment not only without notice (which, if I may add that inspection was unlawful and would violate my right to privacy and the covenant of quiet enjoyment as a tenant) but my room has been left with lights on, closet doors open, and personal items disheveled. And, frequently, the time they enter just coincidentally is the one hour of the whole day that I happen to leave my apartment. Another side note is that there has been year round construction that I wasn't aware of when I signed the lease that has been waking me up at early hours of the day almost everyday since I've moved in. I feel as though my privacy is violated, I feel cheated on my lease, and I feel completely defeated after living here for a year. Hopefully someone takes the time to read this and I save others from living in what seemed to be a nice complex but ended up being a complete waste of time and money for a living experience. If anybody has any questions about this, don't hesitate to message me. I'd be happy to provide any info or details you need. Thanks for taking the time to read this.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kate A.Lexington, KY0274Aug 11, 2012First to Review
Biggest bunch of idiots I have ever had to deal with.
NEVER RENT AT THE LEX! It seems their sole mission is to screw you out of your money and make you never want to return, and they do an amazing job of it.
We've had so much trouble with the management and staff including them breaking our contract and cheating us out of money. The worst part is that we can't legally abandon our contract without getting sued! It is written in the lease that we have no right to pursue legal action against them no matter what they try to pull.
The Lex is a bunch of tyrant vultures preying on naive college kids. Take my advice and STAY AWAY FROM THE LEX.Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - G A.Lexington, KY01Sep 11, 2020
The lex is truly nasty, they take care of nothing. The landlords are money hungry and take advantage of young people moving into new apartments they think are nice. They raised my rent almost $200 after telling me I would be paying "the same amount" and then charged me $100 in late fees In the middle of a pandemic even though I could not get out of my lease at all, oh-unless I found a new tenant to take over my lease! Which isn't possible because we are in a PANDEMIC. So now I live in apartment where they charge $45 a month for granite countertops I didn't even want. The hallways and elevators are always filthy, the girl I met the other day told me she found cockroaches when she moved in!!! DONT. LIVE. HERE. And if you do now, get out and don't re-sign. Terrible customer service too. Oh, and my car got broken into and when I called they said they couldn't do anything at all.
Did I mention my roommate pays less than me for the same apartment? They say it's because she signed earlier but her rent was lower than mine ever was. I've tried to talk to them reasonably but it's just excuse after excuse and obviously no one in the office has any power to do anything, they sound like they read off a script.
Please don't live here, and if any employees see this I hope you take it as a wake up call to start caring about the service you provide for tenants if you're going to charge them with random fees constantly !Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
