About the Business
Our first store in the United States, located in the heart of downtown Lexington, Kentucky, opened in May 2012. Located among the impressive architecture and monumental buildings of the downtown area, this franchise is at the intersection of North Broadway Road and 367 W. Short Street. It houses a full service bar and a private outdoor seating area all exquisitely decorated with our distinct Shakespearean touch. It also has a private banquet room on the mezzanine level that can hold 15 to 150 guests. Open from 7:30AM - late everyday of the week. Now with a second location at Chinoe Center! Our Franchise is 18th century inspired, color saturated sanctum of deeply cushioned couches, touch smooth leather chairs and conversation inviting tables - angst departs and imagination blooms. Perhaps it's the cookies or the coffee, the handmade chocolates, or the simple, exquisitely prepared, eat what makes you happy anytime, all day fare from our extensive global menu. We see inspiration happen here every day. Come dream your next idea. Work, talk, be encouraged to stay, table turning is not our aim. Smooth away a care worn day, start a conversation or a blog, dine with a smiling friend or a tablet. We think you'll find our café culture positive and enchanting.

Had a light meal at Shakespeare and Co before heading to a concert at nearby Rupp Arena. It was a chilly evening and the restaurant had quite a few other concert-goers (as identified by their t-shirts). After being sat at a table a bit too close to the door, the hostess cheerfully moved us to a more comfortable location upon request without hesitation.
My friend and I chose to share a flatbread pizza and ordered our own salads. The salads were fresh and abundant! The pizza was larger than anticipated and between the 2 of us we could not finish all the slices. The flatbread pizza could have been served a bit hotter, but was still very tasty!
Our server was aware we were heading to the concert and made sure we made it out the door on time which was appreciated!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jun 12, 2018
Shakespeare and Co. is a bit of an oddity. Its a large restaurant decorated with Victorian art murals and serving water in glass goblets. They serve sweet and savory crepes, along with a wide variety of cuisine including all-day breakfast, pastas, fish and chips, burgers, and Mediterranean specialties.
Our group of five came here during our 1-hour lunch break. It took nearly 45 mins to get our food, which was a but disappointing since we were late getting back to our technical conference. The restaurant did not seem all that busy so perhaps the kitchen was backed up for some reason.
For entree, I ordered a Nicoise Salad, which has a nice mix of greens, asparagus, seared tuna, anchovies, tomatoes, hard-boiled egg, and olives. Decent mix of flavors, textures, and color. I found the sauce to be very mustardy however.
Would rate 3 stars, due to the unexplained (and frankly unacceptable) delays in getting our food. The food itself was decent in quality though.Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - May 26, 2018Updated review

Went for our nephews graduation on the second floor, in a private cute dining area. Very well decorated. The food buffet for the event was good. The best was the mini Strawberry Cheesecakes & Chicken Sandwiches which I added ranch to. Yum!
Other than that, everything was ok, service sucked, as the first time it did, but towards the end it was better so I could add a star here. Long way from five I tell ya.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0Business owner information

We at Shakespeare and Co. are so sorry that your dining experience didn't live up to our expectations. We pride ourselves on not only having excellent decor, but also amazing food and service as well. Unfortunately, we did not live up to our standards today and we apologize for that.
We appreciate your feed back and would like to invite you back to give us another chance to exceed your expectations!Apr 10, 2018Previous review4.10.17 1:00pm
Best word for here disarray... fits how our bartender/server Brittany looked as well as acted. Hair sloppy, glasses sliding down her nose, she couldn't find the vanilla vodka, the server asked her if the Rosé was sweet, she didn't know said she needed to check downstairs, did not know where the keys were to go down, then found them. Server asked for limes she said they aren't cut. The server said the F word, then Brittany found some cut limes.
Wish I observed this before ordering her recommendation of the Beet Salad being that I was craving a salad. The picture was beautiful on the menu w/ walnuts, goat cheese, fresh tomato, arugula & heirloom beets w/ side of chicken. My salad came out slopped together, smushed tomatoes, wilted mixed greens, dried up thinly sliced chicken... I totally lost my appetite.
Ordered the mushroom soup, nothing like we expected. The mushrooms were blended like a tapenade & balsamic like taste & look to it. No bread to start so we asked Brittany for bread she said she'd bring us a side of toast... guess from breakfast. She forgot, then forgot the butter. Soup should come w/ bread in my opinion, but they had a nice pic of seasoned pita bread so serve us that not some dry toast.
Hot to Trot burger which says it comes w/ onion straws, bacon, cheddar, jalapenos, mustard & chipotle mayo... no jalepenos or chipotle mayo or mustard. Overall, burger was great. Fries were ice cold.
Tip for management:
Post a pic of how your food should look, such as how it does in the menu, in the kitchen for your chef to plate it exactly.
Make sure your bartender looks the way you want your restaurant represented, have the bar fully stocked, fruit cut before opening.
The restaurant is gorgeous & all I could think was what a disappointment. - Feb 10, 2020
What can I say about this place. The decorations were interesting. It does set a tone. I was with a large group and we only had 1 witness. Needless to say, service was extremely slow. I ordered water and a breakfast burrito. I was able to substitute turkey sausage for the bacon. The food was ok. My friend had a Bloody Mary and she was verY underwhelmed. For the price point of this place, I feel quality and taste would be better. This is not a restaurant I would like to go back. I had high expectations of this restaurant, but I was completely let down.

Let me start by saying that when you go to an eatery AFTER making a reservation, the expectation is that they'll honor it. Showed up for my 7pm reservation for a party of 7 on Friday night and had to wait at the tiny entrance for 53 mins!!!! Cold night, door kept opening, no room at the bar, squeezed against each other like anything! Hateful!
Finally got shown to our table... while serving, the server dropped ketchup and sauce from 2 platters literally between my mother and I.. splashed our clothes n shoes. Took it in his stride with a lame apology.. swooped up the tablecloth n just left. We put it down to the fact that he must've been tired, working since morning so let it be. Though I fumed within! We ordered many things like:
Chicken nuggets: Below average
Burger: Good
Salmon: Average
Classic: Good
Creme Brûlée: Below average
Fish n Chips: Below average
Chocolate Cake something: Good
Overall, it was a very disappointing dinner... made more so because it was my birthday dinner! I don't think I'll be going back there anytime soon. Not to mention that after eating that overly oily fried fish, I didn't feel good for a few days! I blame my digestive issues on that oily fish n chips!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 7, 2019
The place is enchanting aesthetically! The food is good. I had a chicken Caesar salad. The service was only okay, but perhaps it was just an especially busy time. I'd definitely go back even though it's a tiny bit pricey.

I think this is a cute place decorated in an old Victorian style restaurant with either a choice of a regular table, couch or high top tables to eat at. I came here for breakfast this morning and I had the 'Smoked Salmon and Scrambled Eggs' ($13), and a $3 orange juice. One must like salmon to enjoy this dish. My server was excellent and very polite. I'd like to try their other food options in the future.
What I did not realize about this place was they have over 30 locations around the world and it all started in Dubai! Just a little interesting note about this place. :)Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 57416486214Sep 30, 2018
Amazing place to go!
I only love their breakfast. Get the crepes. Any kind of crepes. They're all really good.
But that's it. Just the breakfast is good.
It's a cute space and decorated well from top to bottom. Even their menu looks like a book! Love it!
I've had their dinner here and was pretty unimpressed.
The space is large though! There are a few rooms you can sit in and some outside seating.
Obsessed with it!Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Vivian G.Newnan, GA13273Mar 28, 2019
This place has an identity crisis from its name to the decor to the menu. The name might make you think this menu would be British inspired but it isn't. The decor is a strange mix of Victorian and Rococo kitsch. Our server seemed to have a tense relationship with the owner who seemed tense - possibly because it was a slow lunch service and he had nothing to do?
The menu is an odd mix of Mediterranean dishes (see photos folks have posted of the menu) but there is no consistent theme.
I ordered the soup of the day (French onion) and it was served with what looks like a kraft singles square of cheese just floating on top. Flavor was mediocre. I also had the quinoa salad which was fresh but bland. The veggies were nice but it desperately needed salt and maybe some herbs.
My husband had the goat cheese pizza. The crust was thin but doused in what amounted to a goat cheese Alfredo sauce. The sun-dried tomatoes and arugula saved this dish.
Overall this place is bland. Service is mediocre.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hello Vivian,
Thank you for your review. I apologize that you received that impression of our restaurant. The restaurant concept actually started in Dubai but we do have a nice fish n chips on our menu! :) I will speak with our chef personally about the issues that you inquired during your visit as this is not the norm for us! Thank you for stopping by and we would love to have you back soon! - Sherah I.Washington, DC6139119May 23, 2018
I have visited Shakespeare and Co before at the Chinoe location so I really enjoy the food and decor. My Mom had never been so we stopped at the location downtown for an early lunch. We were greeted with a smile. The restaurant does not have carseat slings but I was able to seat my son on the window seal next to our table.
The server was very nice and we connected over being being boy Moms lol. We ordered the appetizer platter that came with vegetable spring rolls and cheese curds. My Mom ordered the beef short ribs and I ordered the smoked salmon salad for my meal.
My Mom's potatoes were cold and the spring rolls were also cold. The server did a great job getting us fresh, hot replacements.
A plus they had a changing table in the women's restroom!! I am such a Mom because my ratings now include if I am able bring my son along with me.
Overall the experience was positive and the food was yummy.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
